"Demonstration of Utilising
High Volume Fly Ash Based Concrete for Structural Application"
by Structural Engineering Research Centre
Scope
To demonstrate the utilisation of High Volume Fly
ash based concrete for structural applications through laboratory
investigations.
Parameters
The following activities would be carried out to fulfil
the scope of work:
-
Characterisation of fly ash sample
- Tests would be carried out to obtain Physical properties
and Chemical composition of fly ash sample.
-
Study the fly ash cement pastes for compatibility
with chemical admixture (i.e. superplasticiser).
- It is proposed to use two different types of superplasticisers,
available in the market
-
The following tests are to be carried out for
the fly ash based concrete
- Development of compressive strength at 1, 3, 7, 28, 56 and
90 days
- Study of Chloride-ion penetrability (RCPT tests based on
ASTM C 1202) at 28, 56 and 90 days.
- Accelerated testing for corrosion of steel in concrete by
impressed current method in chloride cum sulphate environment
- Assessment of resistance to carbonation
- Stress strain characteristics (s - e curves, and Young Modulus)
and flexural strength and bond strength at 28 days for the
concrete.
- Resistance to abrasion at 28 days
- Study of the structural behaviour of reinforced concrete
structural elements, such as beam and column specimens under
different static ;load conditions, viz., flexure and shear,
for the beam and under compression for the column
- Testing of typical beam-column joint under cyclic loading.
- Preparation of technical report giving the results of carious
test and recommendations.
