Fly ash is a by-product of coal combustion in thermal power plants, and India produces over 100 million tonnes of fly ash annually, the disposal of which being a growing problem in the country.
The overall goal of this CIDA/
Natural
Resources Canada/
CII
project, done in partnership with other Indian Agencies, is to strengthen
India's ability to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to promote sustainable
development in India by enhancing the capacity and willingness of key stakeholders
to effectively use higher volumes of fly ash in concrete construction. In
order to achieve this objective, the project intends to transfer to India
the High-Volume Fly Ash Concrete technology, which tends to minimize the
amount of ordinary portland cement required to produce high-quality concrete.
